Traveling with sustainability in mind is possible and it becomes even more meaningful when this experience is shared. Through writing for instance, that's what James does:

I'm a freelance travel writer, specialising in adventures, sustainable tourism and the great outdoors. Previously I was the editor of TNT Magazine and TNT Downunder.

Why did you join Work for Impact?

Work for Impact has given me the excellent opportunity to put my skills as a writer into something more important than me and what I can gain. I want to be able to contribute to my core beliefs which centre around supporting sustainability, culture, and environment. Giving back is the best thing in the world and I am fortunate enough to be able to make it my lifes work.

What motivates you?

Its a great feeling when I get an article published about sustainable tourism that can help communities in countries like Morocco, Zambia, Kenya, Mauritius and Borneo. A few hours writing for me can have a massive benefit on a communitys life.

How would you contribute to make the world a better place?

Travel is changing, and I want people to recognise that there is another way. We will be able to travel again in the future, but lets do it differently. It is possible to maintain a high level of tourist satisfaction and ensure a meaningful experience from the tourists point of view, by raising awareness about sustainability issues and promoting sustainable tourism practices. As a responsible tourist we can help local economies while preserving and sustaining natural and cultural resources for future generations.

Favourite organisation?

I have been fortunate enough to have worked with a lot of great organisations, but currently my number one is Walking with Nomads. The operator offers off the beaten track, sustainable in nature and gentle in impact tours across Morocco. Environmental conservation is at the forefront of everything that Walking with Nomads does while benefiting Moroccos fragile natural heritage with respect and love.
