Emphasizing that less than 4% of the ocean remains unaffected by human activity, Oceana states 4 main problems :

  • Overfishing that is threatening ocean ecosystems and livelihoods;
  • Pollution and contamination because of mercury, antibiotics, oil and climate-changing gases;
  • Squandering potential sources of food.
  • Trashing marine wildlife and special places.

Until now, Oceana has successfully protected more than 4.5 million square miles of ocean.
