Social Media Manager
Are you passionate about social media and ending plastic pollution? As a Social Media Manager, you will develop content, execute social media strategies and campaigns as well as manage our presence across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and ideally TikTok with time. You will work closely with our Director of Marketing on social media planning and collaborate with our branch’s creative teams to bring social media ideas and content to life. We’re looking for an ecowarrior with strong writing skills and experience successfully managing social media accounts.
Responsibilities
Plastic Oceans International (Primary Focus)
Manage social media presence on Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter and ideally work towards creating a new presence for Plastic Oceans International on TikTok
Develop and schedule a weekly content calendar and work with the Director of Marketing to ensure strategic alignment across all communication
Create Facebook and Linkedin events
Brainstorm storytelling and educational content with the team over social media and execute
Social listening to find inspiration for storytelling and educational content
Develop strategies to increase social media presence, engagement and grow an engaged following
Help create or find content for international special days, ideally educational
Like comments and answer direct messages maintaining the brand’s voice
Engage with branches and partner’s content
Shift focus to more value-driven “give” content to create a balance between “give” and “get” content. Targetting primarily those who already have a basic foundation on the plastic pollution crisis, looking to understand the problem and solutions deeper.
Manage social media deliverables and tracking for sponsors and partners when needed
Social media communication coordination (to grow into)
Work with the Director of Marketing to create a monthly social media strategy “Monthly Social Media Agenda” to review on our monthly call with branch communication managers
Communication with individuals and organizations via email regarding social media content and campaigns such as events, social takeovers, World Ocean Day, etc ...
Communicate new campaigns, blogs and other needed info to branches
Monthly reporting on social media performance
Trees & Seas (Year-round program and annual festival organized by Plastic Oceans)
Manage social media presence on Instagram and Facebook. This is a secondary focus and will primarily be needed the months leading into the annual festival. For Instagram, these posts can include collaborated posts with your Plastic Oceans International content.
Like comments and answer direct messages
Manage social media tracking and deliverables for sponsor
Brainstorm promotional content ideas and ideas to communicate the interconnectedness between oceans and forests, diverse conservation efforts and environmental issues
BlueCommunities (Program run by Plastic Oceans)
Plan monthly calendar, reposting content from our BlueCommunity members solely (no content curation needed)
Brainstorm content ideas with the team on storytelling content
Engage with BlueCommunities member’s social media content
Engage in the BlueCommunities member Facebook group
Social media communication coordination (current)
Answer social media how-to questions from branches
Update our “Social Media Best Practice Guide” when needed
Communicate platform updates on functionality with the branches
Create social media briefing info sheets for major events, campaigns and films as well as share with branches using a template provided
Other responsibilities
Review newsletter copy with the Director of Marketing
Ideally, help manage website reviews and create landing pages on WordPress when needed
Requirements
Passion for social media and making the planet healthier and more just for all
Foundation knowledge of the plastic pollution crises, with a keen interest to learn more
2+ years of marketing experience ideally in social media. Background in marketing or social media certificates would be a plus but work experience and portfolio take precedence.
Strong writing and skills, with attention to detail and the ability to story tell
Creative and strategic thinker with experience executing content creation, storytelling and social media planning
Experience creating graphics, reels and ideally TikToks
An avid user of social media platforms with knowledge of current trends
Beginner/Intermediate design skills, ideally familiar with Canva
Ideally, experience working with Sprout Social and WordPress
Ideally, strong communication and verbal skills open to being on social media lives, stories, partner takeovers, etc …
Contract length: 3-month probationary period, with the goal of a long-term full-time contract
Job type: Full-time (40-45 hours weekly)
Job Location: Remote - Ideal candidate in North or South American time zones.
