John is an expert in innovation and entrepreneurship who has worked independently since 2005 after working full time for SQW Ltd (formerly Segal Quince Wicksteed) for ten years. Prior to that he worked for 12 years at PREST (Programme of Policy Research in Science and Technology) at the University of Manchester.
He has managed large numbers of projects for the European Commission,UK and other national and regional public organisations. His recent work has all involved aspects of knowledge and technology transfer with the aim of stimulating innovation and entrepreneurship at regional, national and organisational levels, particularly in small firms. He has been involved in establishing and evaluating many innovation centres and clusters in the UK, Ireland, Panama, Poland, Sweden, the Middle East and North Africa.
John has extensive international experience covering west and east Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, the US and India.From April 2006 to June 2010, John was based in Cairo during which time he was Team Leader of a consortium delivering the project, “EuroMed Innovation and Technology Programme” (Medibtikar). This 4 year project mainly concerned delivering training in innovationand entrepreneurship in the MEDA countries. There were five main areas of activity; incubator development, technology transfer, financing of innovation, innovation policy development and sectoral studies. Medibtikar covered ten countries; Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine Territories, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey.
