  • UNICEF Mali - Chief Education

    2016 - 2020

    ➢ Lead, coordinate and implement UNICEF’s Education Programme across Mali – Budget: approx. 12M$ per year; Staffing: This includes managing directly a team of 9 professionals (5 nationals and 4 international), support and guide ancillary staff (6) based in 5 field offices, and responsible for recruiting staff when needed; Various implementation partners (total N.9); Donors: NORAD, Italian Cooperation, Japan Cooperation, UNICEF national Committee, Netherlands, USAID, DEVCO (EU), CERF.

    ➢ Grew the programme from 7-8 M$ per year to 12-14 M$ per year. I fundraised for over 30 M$ on multi-year proposal.

    ➢ Supported the development of use of tablets and innovative ICT tools for improving quality learning and teachers preparation ; support the development of specific system to track children presence in classes that could be linked to the national statistic database; Support the Ministry of Education in the development of the 10 years sector plan (2019-2028).

    ➢ Responsible for the coordination of Education Technical Group of Financial partners' sector, as well as lead the newly established coordination Network of the Early Child Development (ECDAN). 

  • UNICEF in RDC

    2009 - 2016

    Education specialist - Gome Zone Office :

    ➢ Lead, coordinate and implement UNICEF’s Education Programme (Development and Emergency) across seven provinces in eastern DR Congo – Budget: approx. 10M$ per year; Staffing: This includes managing directly a team of 5 professionals (4 nationals and 1 international), support and guide ancillary staff based in 4 field offices, and responsible for recruiting staff when needed; Various implementation partners (total N.10); Donors: Qatar, Japan Cooperation, UNICEF national Committee, DFID, Netherlands, USAID, SIDA, CERF and Pooled Funds. ➢ Grew the programme from 7 M$ per year to 10 M$ per year.

    ➢ Supported the development, initial pilots and programme integration of Cash transfers for school materials; household safety nets/social protection to maintain children in school; a revision of the Parental Education Programme to transform it from a simple sensitization to an Alphabetization programme focus to the behavioral change.

    ➢ In the absence of the Head of Zone Office, I was designated Officer in Charge/ Interim Head of Zone Office (P5) Supporting 125 staff, 4 UNICEF Provincial Offices, approx. budget 70M$. UNICEF Representation at UN Coordination Meetings and planning of, and participation in, donor visits. Support in managed the security of office and staff during the 2013 attacks of Goma Town.

    I was part of the Emergency Response Team - Education: 1) 2008, Liberia - Interim Program Manager Education (3 months) 2) 2008 – 2009, DR Congo (Education Emergency Response) (4 months) 3) 2009, DR Congo, Interim Education National Coordinator (3 months) ➢ Coordinated and implemented SCFUK’s Education and Education in Emergencies Programme. ➢ Supported drafting of Programme and Project Proposals as well as programme reorientation, development and reporting. ➢ Focused on improving coherence and quality of SCFUK’s Education Programme, in DRC led the standardization of programme kits between field offices, the DRC mission and HQ Technical Unit.

    I work under various role and responsibility from Junior Project officer to Education Advisor and Manager. In Uganda and RDC. I have been one of the 4 authors of a Guide and Manuel on Psychosocial for teachers in emergency zone.

    I support the fundraising of the education component reaching 4 time the previous budget allocated to education. I support the development of strategy. I manage different staff both national and International.

    I maintain relationship with donor ad parties and government authorities.
