Education specialist - Gome Zone Office :
➢ Lead, coordinate and implement UNICEF’s Education Programme (Development and Emergency) across seven provinces in eastern DR Congo – Budget: approx. 10M$ per year; Staffing: This includes managing directly a team of 5 professionals (4 nationals and 1 international), support and guide ancillary staff based in 4 field offices, and responsible for recruiting staff when needed; Various implementation partners (total N.10); Donors: Qatar, Japan Cooperation, UNICEF national Committee, DFID, Netherlands, USAID, SIDA, CERF and Pooled Funds. ➢ Grew the programme from 7 M$ per year to 10 M$ per year.
➢ Supported the development, initial pilots and programme integration of Cash transfers for school materials; household safety nets/social protection to maintain children in school; a revision of the Parental Education Programme to transform it from a simple sensitization to an Alphabetization programme focus to the behavioral change.
➢ In the absence of the Head of Zone Office, I was designated Officer in Charge/ Interim Head of Zone Office (P5) Supporting 125 staff, 4 UNICEF Provincial Offices, approx. budget 70M$. UNICEF Representation at UN Coordination Meetings and planning of, and participation in, donor visits. Support in managed the security of office and staff during the 2013 attacks of Goma Town.
