Dr Sibusiso Nxumalo has 9 years of work experience in the fields of environmental, social & economic development & 2 years of work experience in international development. He has served in a number of positions including; Project Coordinator: Climate, Energy & Water at the NBI & National Project Coordinator: UN Environment Programme, responsible for providing technical & research support towards the compilation of the Third National Communication & Second Biennial Report on Climate Change for submission to the UNFCCC & supported the Adaptation component of the Third Annual Climate Change Report for South Africa. He has served as an Assistant Director: Climate Adaptation M&E at the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries primarily responsible for technical advisory support, research inputs and peer-reviewing. He has also served as a Technical Advisor/ Regional Programme Coordinator in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Regional Vulnerability Assessment & Analysis (RVAA) Programme, responsible for providing coordination support on climate change & food security in the SADC region.
His research interests lie on issues concerning Climate Adaptation Finance, Food Security Livelihoods, Adaptation & Mitigation M&E, Green Economy, Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy, Social Protection & Local Economic Development. He holds a PhD in Food Security, a Master’s Degree in Development Studies and a Bachelor of Community & Development Studies from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
